Engineering Project Manager

The main purpose of the role is to manage these rail projects from initial brief, through the design and development stage, developing the project plans, integrating engineering specifications with production schedules, testing, manufacture and implementation of any components needed for the project in order to meet the overall requirements of the client in the most cost effective and reliable way.


This will include


  • Project planning, structuring and scheduling ensuring all key stakeholders are involved and information is effectively documented and shared.

  • Monitor, develop and progress the project plan / schedule – acting as the link between the client, engineering and production to ensure the critical tasks and milestones are met.

  • Use the BOM to record material requirements for each project and work with procurement to place orders.

  • Day to day involvement in delivering the project requirements in terms of interpretation of drawings and engineering specifications, materials ordering and progressing and quality control.

  • Signing off of project documentation relating to work completed and working with production to ensure critical tasks are completed by properly assessed and competent staff.

  • Supporting the engineering manager in the development and implementation of an efficient and cost effective engineering project management process for each project lifecycle.


You will be a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with at least 5 years working in a project management environment within a Production / Engineering business, or ideally within the Rail Industry.  Good communication and problem solving skills are essential so you can identify solutions to any issues arising and work with internal staff and customers on the appropriate steps.  Additionally, the ability to demonstrate good commercial / financial awareness in understanding project costs and identifying efficiencies using Microsoft Project and Excel as your Project Management tools is key to this role.
