Gerry Hilferty

Managing Director

Gerry is a Chartered Engineer and founded Brodie Engineering in 1996. He is a railway engineering career professional with extensive experience of rolling stock maintenance and repair and the design of specialist bespoke infrastructure maintenance vehicles and infrastructure handling equipment.

Kevin Docherty

Finance Director

Kevin joined Brodie Engineering in 2016. He is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde and since qualifying with the ICAEW has held a succession of senior roles. He is an experienced professional with a substantial track record in all aspects of financial, commercial and operational management.

Douglas Gibson

Operations Director

Dougie joined the Brodie Engineering team in 2004 with over 20 years’ rail experience. Formerly, he worked as a team leader in coach building with Hunslet-Barclay and has developed a detailed understanding of all trades associated with rail engineering manufacture, refurbishment and installation.

 

Barbara McIntyre

Engineering Director

Barbara is a Chartered Engineer with First Class MEng degree in Product Design Engineering. She joined Brodie Engineering in 2015 with 12 years’ experience in engineering and manufacturing.  Barbara started her career designing buses with Alexander Dennis before moving to BAE Systems in 2005 where she performed a variety of roles including leading a team of engineers to design Power & Propulsion systems for cutting edge warships.

Jim Thomson

Business Development Director

Jim joined Brodie Engineering in 2015 with over 36 years of experience in the rail industry across a variety of management roles including Depot/Production Management and Engineering Management.  He holds an H.N.D Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an MBA in Business Management.

Stephen Birnie

Business Relationship Manager

Stephen joined Brodie Engineering in April 2018 with over 27 years of engineering, technical and management experience within a rail, production and maintenance environment for Scotrail. His depth of rail industry knowledge adds real value to the team. Stephen comes from an electrical background, progressing to engineering shift manager and then technical manager before becoming the depot fleet manager at Corkerhill depot where he had responsibilities for the health and safety of all staff, team management, train safety, fleet performance, commercial performance, and customer relationships.

Susan Scott

HR Manager

Susan is an HR professional (Chartered MCIPD) holding a PG Diploma in Human Resource Management. Susan joined the Brodie Engineering team in 2014 with over 20 years of generalist HR experience from working in the Oil & Gas sector for BP (LPG) at a commercial level. As part of their leadership team, she was responsible for delivering a wide range of HR projects, change management and organisational transformations. Susan was also responsible for leading all employee communications and engagement activities.

 

Carolyn Roberts

Compliance (HSQE) Manager

Carolyn recently joined the Brodie Engineering team in February 2019 with 8 years' experience in Compliance and Health & Safety. She started her career as a timber engineer and gradually progressed into this field, specialising in rail infrastructure. Before joining the team at Brodie Engineering, Carolyn worked for a large Network Rail principal contractor, specialising in infrastructure maintenance. This covered many areas including civil engineering, rope access works, working with road-rail vehicles, etc. While she had responsibilities in the past positions for all aspects of Health & Safety and Compliance, later in her career she focused on occupational health and championed mental health awareness throughout the company.

John McGougan

Materials Manager

John joined Brodie Engineering in 2011 with 10 years’ rail experience. He began his career in electronics and spent 14 years in various Warehouse and Logistics Management roles where he was responsible for inventory management, warehousing and on time delivery of materials. John then worked for Hunslet-Barclay, Brush Barclay and latterly, Wabtec Rail Scotland where he initially began as Stores and Material handling supervisor. He then developed through a series of management roles including Material and Systems, Materials and Maintenance, Production Control and Materials Manager. He gained further experience of inventory management, procurement, stores and production control in support of production and ultimately the customer.

Matthew Walker

Production Manager

Matt joined the Brodie Engineering team in 2015 as an electrician and has since progressed to production manager. Matt started his career in the motor trade with a 4-year apprenticeship at Taggarts of Motherwell (rover dealership) as a vehicle technician. After joining Brodie Engineering, he went to Ireland with the team for 2 years to undertake electrical work to complete building and testing on the Belmond Grand Hibernian. After he returned, he progressed into his current role which he has been in for 2 years.
