Brodie Engineering: A Leading Rolling Stock Engineering Business in the UK


At Brodie Engineering, we offer a comprehensive range of refurbishment, maintenance, overhaul and repair services to the rail sector. We have expertise ranging from passenger trains to specialist infrastructure vehicles; from bespoke new equipment to obsolescence management on heritage trains. We hold externally audited certification for our safety, quality and environmental procedures and systems.

 

Our in-house engineering team is available for rapid problem-solving. We have experience in developing complex, bespoke, yellow plant; in developing technically challenging repairs for damaged vehicles and in reverse engineering obsolete parts. We have experience of providing engineering consultancy services including development or optimisation of modifications, assessment of damage or corrosion, analysis of applicable standards, and writing maintenance or overhaul documents.

 

The projects team have decades of experience in rolling stock project management across a range of different project types such as heavy overhauls, re-livery, new build, site support, impact damage.

 

Our production staff pride themselves in delivering our products and services efficiently and to the highest quality. All of our production staff are permanent employees who are trained to the highest standard and competent to undertake the tasks and activities required of them.


More About What We Do

Brodie Engineering undertakes overhaul, design and engineering work for the rail industry. We understand the requirements needed for train operations and work to all group and industry standards.

We operate out of our two depots in Kilmarnock, Bonnyton Works and Caledonia Works which have the following capacity and facilities

Bonnyton Works

  • Indoor capacity for up to 14 vehicles
  • Stabling capacity for a further 11 vehicles
  • Pits for underframe maintenance including an underframe wash area
  • 28-metre paint booth
  • Variety of jacks for vehicle lifts
  • Traverser for easy movement of vehicle between production roads
  • Fabrication facilities for in-house manufacture
  • Water test facility 

Caledonia Works

  • Indoor capacity for up to 40 vehicles
  • Stabling capacity for multiple vehicles
  • 3 internal paint booths
  • Overhead crane
  • Fabrication shop
  • Wheel shop
  • Overhead line for electrical unit testing

Meet The Team

Gerry Hilferty

Managing Director

Gerry is a Chartered Engineer and founded Brodie Engineering in 1996. He is a railway engineering career professional with extensive experience of rolling stock maintenance and repair and the design of specialist bespoke infrastructure maintenance vehicles and infrastructure handling equipment.

Jim Thomson

Business Development Director

Jim joined Brodie Engineering in 2015 with over 36 years of experience in the rail industry across a variety of management roles including Depot/Production Management and Engineering Management.  He holds an H.N.D Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an MBA in Business Management.
