Brodie Engineering: A Leading Rolling Stock Engineering Business offers a comprehensive range of refurbishment, maintenance, overhaul, engineering support, project management, and repair services to the UK rail and light rail sector.
We operate from our depots in Kilmarnock, Scotland and provide a mobile service to the rail industry over the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland.
We are looking to recruit a Purchasing Assistant for 12months to cover maternity leave to support with the purchasing of materials.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- Entering order information into SAGE with attention to detail to ensure correct material, costs and project codes are used.
- Source materials from approved suppliers ensuring that schedules are met in line with production output dates.
- Negotiate and place purchase orders with agreed suppliers ensuring scheduled reporting and delivery promises are maintained, with information communicated back to the project and engineering teams.
- Communicate to relevant internal stakeholders any potential supply issues in a timely manner.
- Develop and use various communication styles with internal stakeholders specifically Production and Engineering.
- Provide frequent updates to the Engineering team, Production and Project Managers with key project material delivery dates.
- Expedite orders in accordance with purchase order requirements.
- Identify any potential cost savings across the business.
- Promote Brodie Engineering’s behavioural expectations by enhancing and supporting working relationships within the business, customers and external agencies.

The ideal candidate will have:
- An understanding materials, equipment and services in a commercial engineering environment.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and SAGE accounting systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High levels of organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to interface with an internal/external stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to cope with time pressured situations and effectively prioritise material scheduling.
