Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 dependent upon experience

Operating from two depots in Kilmarnock, Scotland we also provide a mobile service to the rail industry over the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland.

Key clients include ScotRail, Northern Rail and Caledonian Sleeper.

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HSE Advisor to join our team initially on a fixed term basis for 12 months. This role is critical in promoting and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental practices within our organisation. As an HSE Advisor, you will work closely with various departments to create and champion a safe delivery culture, provide advice, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. 

Duties

  • Support the development of a high performing, safe delivery culture and drive continued improvement in safety performance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health & safety, environmental legislation, and relevant industry standards
  • Provide training and support to employees on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices to promote a culture of safety
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and areas for improvement across all operational sites ensuring that the results are recorded and ensure all open actions are closed in a timely manner
  • Develop Health and Safety alerts, bulletins, notices, ensuring that these are read and understood by all staff employed at the site, regular site users and visitors
  • Conduct regular health and safety briefings and toolbox talks – including delivery to contractors and other 3rd parties where appropriate
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies
  • Provide assurance of the suitability of safety management arrangements with regard to site buildings, COSHH, fire safety, lifting activities, and use of equipment
  • Develop a risk assessment and safe working procedure programme

Key Relationships

  • Reporting directly to the HQSE Manager
  • Day to day working closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the Production Management Team and overall workforce

Key Skills

  • To have demonstrable experience within the HSE function within rail, industrial or manufacturing businesses
  • A 'can do' attitude and a genuine desire to drive improvements through communication
  • Be fully conversant on the methodology and rollout of a 5 x 5 risk assessment programme
  • Create and deliver Toolbox talks
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • 5 years minimum experience in a rail, industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good relationship building skill set, able to develop internal and external relationships
  • Exceptional eye for detail, able to spot opportunities and risks and recommend mitigation's proactively
  • A strong work ethic, ability to work to deadlines and manage your own workload effectively
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent as a minimum
  • Trained Risk assessor
  • The creation of PUWER reports desirable but not essential
  • Have a working knowledge of Legal Registers
  • Auditing qualification desirable but not essential
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent desirable but not essential
  • IEMA Foundation (environmental) desirable but not essential
  • Permit to Work and Control of Contractors experience desirable
  • Experience of liaising with Maintenance/Facilities teams desirable
  • Be able and confident to conduct employee inductions to new and current employees
