24/05/2021

Brodie Engineering has been awarded a multimillion-pound contract by Eversholt Rail to perform a time-based overhaul on its fleet of Class 318 Electric Multiple Units.

This contract is due to commence in November 2021 and will be a direct follow on from the highly successful Class 320 Time Based Overhaul Extra programme currently being undertaken at Brodie Engineering’s Bonnyton Works.

The scope of the work includes the safety critical overhaul of several components including traction equipment, doors, heating and ventilation systems as well as exterior re-livery.

The 21 Class 318s, currently on lease to ScotRail, operate on various service lines in and around West Central Scotland.

Gerry Hilferty, Managing Director of Brodie Engineering said “We are delighted and extremely proud to have been awarded this contract. This reaffirms the collaborative working relationship that we have developed with Eversholt Rail over several years. This contract will retain jobs in East Ayrshire and provides us with a firm foundation to build upon, following our recent acquisition of neighbouring Caledonia Works”

Paul Sutherland, Client Relations Director at Eversholt Rail said “Following the successful delivery of the overhaul of our Class 320 fleet by Brodie Engineering, we are delighted to award this contract for works on our Class 318 fleet.  We look forward to continuing to develop our collaborative working with Brodie Engineering and ScotRail to deliver safe and reliable trains back to Scotland’s passengers”

Syeda Ghufran, ScotRail Engineering Director, said “Safety is always our top priority, and we have every confidence this will prove to be another excellent partnership with Eversholt Rail and Brodie Engineering. This extensive overhaul of our fleet of Class 318 trains will greatly enhance the reliability and comfort we already provide customers travelling around the West Central Scotland area.”

Dougie Andrew, Transport Scotland Rolling Stock Programme Sponsor said “This is a welcome contract award which demonstrates our continued support for rail and funding for rolling stock is delivering wider benefits to local Scottish companies. This helps create and sustain jobs in the rail maintenance industry while bringing green benefits by re-engineering existing trains.”
