What to expect from a graduate placement at Brodie Engineering
My summer placement with Brodie Engineering was the exact experience I needed to develop into a more proficient engineer. As a graduate rail engineer, every new experience helps to adapt to the ever-changing rail industry. The ability to generate ideas to design new and innovative solutions to problems is a big part of what Brodie Engineering do, which made them the perfect place to gain some design experience. My time at Brodie Engineering has helped to develop competencies in using engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills and contribute to the design and development of new and innovative engineering solutions.
During my time at Brodie Engineering, I designed a bogie press to help with the commissioning of overhauled bogies. With the help and guidance of the team, I was able to bring about a design that was both fit for purpose and cost effective. The raft of knowledge and experiences of the team made the process of idea generation to a conceptual CAD renders an easy one where I have picked up a plethora of new skills. I also had the opportunity to get involved with other projects that the company was involved with thus broadening the experiences gained.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my placement experience and have definitely gained a lot from it. I was fully welcomed by the whole depot and was made to feel like one of the team, even cheering on the team during the Brodie Engineering sponsored 10k run. From start to finish I was continually challenged and engaged which has proved to produce exceptional results.
