John Mather Trust Awards 2025

06/03/2025

Last night I had the pleasure of attending The John Mather Trust Awards Ceremony at Ayrshire College.

The John Mather Trust was set up in 1996 to help young people in the West of Scotland get started in a trade. Since then, over a thousand students at Ayrshire College have benefitted from the generosity of the Trust.

The John Mather Trust supports students and alumni of Ayrshire College who have learned a trade and gone into employment, started an apprenticeship or set up their own business.  Many of those eligible for a John Mather award receive a set of tools of their chosen trade to help them in their careers.

Attending the awards during Scottish Apprenticeship Week was a great reminder and celebration of the benefits apprentices bring to businesses, individuals, and the economy.

Our own Marley Johnston, Apprentice Welder received an award and set of tools for her hard work, dedication, and commitment to learning her trade. In total 110 Ayrshire College Alumni were awarded their tools of the trade.

Brodie Engineering currently has 9 apprentices, young and old, demonstrating the flexibility of our apprenticeship system in Scotland whose “
raison d’etre” is to develop and grow a world-class and inclusive work-based learning system in Scotland.  Apprenticeships help individuals from every walk of life by providing opportunities to build the experience and skills that employers want to see.

I would like to congratulate Marley on this achievement and know that she will continue to grow and develop her skill in her chosen trade alongside all our apprentices.
